Difference Between CD-R Duplication vs. CD-ROM Duplication
CD R Duplication - CDRs contain the same data as CD-ROMs and can be read in the same drives. CDR is written or burned one bit at a time with a laser on a light sensitive dye coating. CD-R Duplication is best suited for smaller jobs (1,000 or less) because of price and speed of turn-around advantages.
CD-ROM Duplication - CD-ROMs look like audio CDs you would buy at your local music store. The first step is the making of a glass master and stampers costing several hundred dollars. The stampers are used with an injection molding process to create the CD-ROM. The CD-ROM is finally coated with a metallic dye and printing. CD-ROM duplication is best suited for larger jobs (1,000 or more). The cost of the glass master is spread over many CD-ROMs making the cost of CD-ROM duplication less expensive than CD-R duplication.
